My Most Used Products of 2016

It’s been an eventful year. 2016 had its ups and downs, but at least for me, overall it was pretty good. Throughout the year, I’ve swapped and tried out different beauty products.
These were my most used holy grail products that got me through 2016:

Let’s start with the base:

I have worn this foundation nearly every day throughout 2016. I’ve tried out other ones, but I’ve always gone back to this: the L’Oreal Infallable 24H-Matte Foundation.

I’ve found that I don’t need to use a lot of this foundation to get a good coverage, yet is still buildable and feels lightweight. The squeezy-tube packaging also makes it easy to apply, great for quick everyday makeup.

Next up is my powder. I use this to set my foundation in place so it doesn’t budge, whatever the day throws at me. It’s the Rimmel London Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder.

I’ve been using this powder since I started wearing makeup when I was about 12. It was the first I ever used, and one of the cheapest out there, it does its job so I never saw the need to change.

Now for mascara, I alternate between different products, but this is the one I use most often. I have tried and tested many different mascaras throughout 2016, but my most used and favourite is the Rimmel London Wonder’Full Wake Me Up Mascara.

I have tried all 4 of the Wonder’Full range, but this one is my favourite. The brush is a different to the other mascaras in the collection, in that the shape is a larger, hourglass shape rather than the normal cone shape. I find this easier to get closeup to the lash line for maximum volume.

It also smells like cucumber, which I think is a nice touch.

In terms of eyebrows, I made the switch from pencil to powder in 2016. However, I constantly wore this product, the L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper, to set my brows in place.

It’s called a plumper because it is not just a normal brow gel, as it contains fibers to make your brows thicker, so you can even wear it on its own, which I have – especially in the summer months when you don’t want as much on your face.

I actually lost this highlighter for a couple of months, and was over the moon when I found it again, as it is my favourite highlighter and the one that I always gravitate towards. It is the Makeup Revolution Pro Illuminate.

It’s a gold colour that has a soft, buttery texture that makes it easy to apply and blend. When swatched on your finger, it can quite look pigmented, yet when applied, is has a nice and subtle glow which I like to apply to the cheeks, nose and Cupid’s bow.

I always find most eyeshadow palettes come with shades I’d never use, whereas I have used every single shade in this palette (not at the same time). I don’t wear eyeshadow everyday, just when going out or on special occasions, but when I do I usually find myself using this product: the MUA Undress Me Too Eyeshadow Palette.

I’m a fan of neutral colours and gold tones, and this palette is exactly that, with a range of matt, pearlescent and shimmer shadows that allow you to create a full eye look with only one palette.

At the end of the day, when I’m worn out and ready for bed, I like to remove all of my
makeup with Soap and Glory’s Peaches and Clean Amazing! 4-In-1 Wash Off Deep Cleansing Milk (bit of a mouthful).

It’s a gentle cleanser with a soft, milky texture that easily ‘melts away makeup’ as it says on the bottle. It’s good for all skin types, which I like because it doesn’t irritate my skin or cause me to breakout. I’ve used it for quite a while and have gone through a few bottles. I have tried a few different micellar waters to remove my makeup, but always end up going back to this product as it is more gentle on my skin.

Finally, another product by Soap and Glory, I like to use this moisturiser before I go to bed. I don’t have particularly dry skin, my skin type is more combination, and this is a nice light moisturiser that is especially for oily/combination skin: Soap and Glory’s The Fab Pore Daily Micro Soothing Moisture Lotion.

This moisturiser helps reduce the appearance of pores and moisturises your skin while quickly sinking in giving a matte finish, and I like it because it doesn’t irritate or feel heavy on my skin.

These were the products I used most throughout the last year, however I’ve recently been switching up my routine, so it’ll be interesting to see if I go back to these products and use these the most in 2017, or have some new products to share next year.
